Lot Essay

Extremely rare and highly appealing, the present timepiece represents a unique opportunity for collectors of the brand. A rare variant of the celebrated Tourbillon Souverain with remontoir d’egalité and deadbeat seconds, the timepiece is manufactured in a very coveted titanium case and made to commemorate the anniversary of F.P. Journe boutiques. Made in a limited edition of 20 examples, the wristwatches were then divided within five locations, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Boca Raton and Geneva.

The present example was made especially for the F.P. Journe Geneva Salon, it is numbered 1 of 5 and offered with its F.P. Journe Certificate dated 2008.

The Tourbillon Souverain received the Aiguille d’Or prize at the Geneva Grand Prix d’Horlogerie in 2004. It was also elected watch of the year at the “Watch of the Year” grand prize in Japan in 2004.

Born in Marseille in 1957, Francois-Paul Journe graduated from the Paris School of Watchmaking in 1976 and immediately joined forces with his uncle, a noted restorer of antique timepieces. Prior to the creation of his own brand, Journe restored some of the world’s most important historical timepieces, crafted unique pocket watches to order and complications for prestigious watch brands. Producing approximately 900 watches per year, F.P. Journe has established its reputation by making high-level quality timepieces inspired from traditional watchmaking techniques.

In 1999, Francois-Paul Journe launched his own watch manufacture and named his creations under the label “F.P. Journe Invenit et Fecit”. The same year, he presented the Tourbillon Souverain, the first model of the Souveraine collection and the only tourbillon wristwatch with remontoire. Driven by a constant quest for innovation, the timepiece was later improved by adding a dead beat second to the remontoire.
