Maurice Henry nait à Cambrai en 1907. A 19 ans, il fonde en 1926 aux côtés de René Daumal, Roger Gilbert-Lecomte et Roger Vailland, la revue Grand Jeu dans laquelle il présente ses poèmes mais également ses dessins. Suite à sa rencontre avec André Breton en 1933, il quitte le groupe au profit des surréalistes avec lesquels il publie le magazine Surréalisme au service de la révolution. Henry participe aux expositions internationales du groupe surréaliste de Paris de 1933 à 1947, mais aussi à Ténérife en 1935, Tokyo en 1937 ou encore Amsterdam en 1938. Poète, peintre mais également cinéaste, il contribue aux scénarii de nombreux films de 1939 au début des années 1950. Maurice Henry décède en 1984 à Milan, laissant derrière lui plus de 25 000 dessins publiés dans plus d’une centaine de revues.

After meeting André Breton in 1933, he left the review to join the Surrealists, with whom he published the magazine Surréalisme au service de la révolution. Henry showed his work at the international Surrealist shows in Paris between 1933 and 1947, as well as in Ténérife in 1935, Tokyo in 1937 and Amsterdam in 1938. Henry was a poet, painter and film-maker; he produced a number of films from 1939 until the early 1950s.
