Lot Essay

The present watch is a spectacular find for collectors of automatic Heuer Autavias. Launched in 1962 and initially designed for automotive and aviation events, the Autavia model was in production for over 20 years and came in many variations. This automatic GMT chronograph has many interesting features including a rotatable blue and red "Pepsi" bezel and neon GMT hand. This model has a classic 1970s chronograph look with an innovative automatic GMT movement.

This watch is preserved in nearly new old stock condition and was notably featured in the book, Heuer Autavia Chronographs 1962-1985, by Richard Crosthwaite and Paul Gavin. Notably, the present watch appears on the cover of the copy of the book included with the watch and has been in notable Heuer collections as an outstanding example of the reference and of a vintage Heuer chronograph generally.
