Reference 6262, along with the reference 6264, was produced from the end of the 1960s through approximately 1972. The model was produced in stainless steel and both 14k and 18k gold, and the 6262 featured a metal bezel with engraved tachometer scale, while the 6264 featured a bezel with black plastic insert and printed tachometer scale. Around 9,000 steel versions and several dozen gold versions of the 6262 model were produced, and all featured the latest generation 727 caliber, which was an improved version of the Valjoux 72 featuring a higher-beat rate for greater accuracy.
Although there are many Daytona watches, naturally some of them age better than others. Over time, the subsidiary dials of this chronograph have changed in color. The once black registers on this dial are now a dark brown color, lighter in some places, which offers a very attractive look against the silvered dial. Rare and highly sought-after, "tropical" subdials for a Rolex Daytona from this period are highly desirable, combined with the well-preserved case, this watch presents a great opportunity for many collectors.
