Lot Essay

Proclaimed the King of Diamonds by Cosmopolitan magazine in 1947 Harry Winston founded his first business at the age of 24 and in 1932 formed Harry Winston Inc. Winston was responsible for cutting such famous diamonds as the Jonker, Vargas, Star of Sierra Leone and what would become the legendary Taylor-Burton diamond. His philosophy was simple – the design of a jewel should be determined by the diamond or gemstone rather than the setting.
