A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF AVALOKITESVARA
MING DYNASTY, LATE 15TH-16TH CENTURY
The figure is shown seated on a double lotus base in lalitasana with left hand raised in vitarka mudra and right hand lowered in varada mudra, each hand holding the stem of a lotus that rises to the shoulder, wearing a diaphanous dhoti and elaborate jewelry, the hair drawn up into a tall chignon behind a figure of the seated Amitabha Buddha and the central jeweled ornament of the crown.
