Si ma peinture ne rencontre pas l’anecdote figurative, elle le doit, je crois, à l’importance donnée au rythme, à ce battement des formes dans l’espace, à cette découpe de l’espace par le temps. »
‘The stronger the rhythm, the less the possibility of image, by which I mean the temptation of figurative association. I think the absence of figurative association in my painting is due to the emphasis on rhythm, this pulsing of forms in space, this slicing up of space by time.’
