Lot Essay
The present ref. 1527 is believed to be the only example of this model in stainless steel to appear in public to date. Consigned by a private collector it is furthermore preserved in very good overall condition.
This particularly attractive example combines several highly desirable features such as rarity, freshness to the market, a stainless steel case, the two-tone silvered dial and the celebrated calibre 12-120 SC with indirect centre seconds. The ébauche for this movement was the result of the collaboration between Louis Cottier and Patek Philippe thanks to which the centre seconds mechanism was ingeniously added to the existing 12'''120 "subsidiary seconds" movement.
Reference 1527
Reference 1527 was introduced in the market in 1942 and made in two series, the first with calibre 12'''120 movement and subsidiary seconds, the second, such as the present watch, with calibre 12'''SC and sweep centre seconds.
The model was made in pink and yellow gold, an exceedingly small series of only 12 examples in stainless steel, the cases made by the celebrated André Wenger.
For the black and white archival images of a ref. 1527 with two-tone silvered dial, applied dot and Roman numerals and sweep centre seconds and the calibre 12-120 SC see Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 172, pl. 267.
