Lot Essay

Launched in 2004, the reference 5196 is the most recent evolution of the celebrated reference 96 which was originally designed in the 1930s. Part of an important private Swiss collection, the wristwatch is offered with its original certificate as well as presentation box.

Sold in 2007, this peculiar example of the reference 5196 features a movement with the Geneva seal. Later examples of the reference made in 2009 and after are assembled with a movement featuring the Patek Philippe Seal. Based on production dates, it is estimated that far fewer examples of this reference were made with the Geneva Seal than with the Patek Philippe Seal, enhancing the rarity of the present example.

Consigned directly by the original owner, the present timepiece has never been offered at auction before and is preserved in close to new condition
