Two similar models in the Dresden Schloss are illustrated by Carl Albiker, Die Meissner Porzellantiere im 18. Jahrhundert, Berlin, 1959, nos. 159 and 160, where he notes that the models by J.J. Kändler appear in his Taxa for 1740 - 1748 described as "1 Löwe, mittelmässiger Grösse, liegend mit offenen Rachen, vor Ihro Königl. Maj. 4 Thlr".
