PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF MR. SHOKICHI HONJŌ (LOTS 1289-1298)In the early 20th Century, Mr. Shokichi Honjo¯ was a ship captain working for Shanghai Nisshin Kisen Kaisha, a Japanese shipping company active in the major port cities of South China coastline and along the Yangtze River, with its main base at 5 Bund Road, Shanghai. He started collecting Chinese artworks while stationed in Shanghai, befriended Wang Zhen, and received many paintings from him directly. Their artworks were all shipped to his family in Japan and remained with the family for over 80 years.
