Lot Essay

The painting is from the collection of Wang Shouxuan. Wang Shouxuan (b.1924) was born in the Dongbei region. Her passion for art started at an early age; she held an exhibition of her works at the age of eleven. Wang accompanied her father on his travels through China, and was exposed to works of artists across categories. She is renowned for her attainments in landscape, flower and figure paintings, all of which started to exude a more pronounced sense of Zen after studying with Zhang Gunian (1905-1987). Wang established Yi Feng Hall and Yifeng Painting and Calligraphy Association in 1981 in Taiwan as gathering places for like-minded artists. She held solo exhibitions of her paintings in the Sun Yet-Sen Hall and the National Museum of History in 1990.
