Lot Essay

The recipient of this painting is Wang Tianxun, who was one of the key leaders of the Sichuanese community in San Francisco. He was an avid collector of Chinese paintings and became good friends with Zhang Daqian during Zhang’s stay in the United States. Zhang also became the godfather of Wang’s youngest son, and gifted Wang numerous works.
