Lot Essay

In 1972, Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak model in stainless steel. Designed by Gerald Genta, the watch featured an octagonal screwed bezel that was initially inspired by a ship's porthole.

The present 18k gold example is from the mid-production where approximately 745 examples were ever made. In remarkably good condition, the may have been worn not more than a handful of times, with sharp and well-defined case sides.
