Lot Essay

Consigned by a private collector, the present Girard-Perregaux has never been offered in public before and is offered in "like new" condition.

Part of the watchmaking history, the enamel process is extremely risky. Dials are to be individually made by a skilled enameller and not on a production line. Artist creates a chosen motif by arranging thin gold wires on the dial. Partition, called “cloisonné” in French, are filled with small quantities of enamel powder in the desired colour. Dial is then fired in an oven at around 900 degrees Celsius causing the powder to melt.
