The work is comprised of nine framed images, consisting of photographs of viewers of art exhibitions. Within each element are four smaller reproductions of art spectators, echoing the larger pictures. To conform with the artist’s instructions and will, Eco must be installed horizontally and at eyelevel, with short, equidistant spaces between each element, so that the internal images, too, are aligned. The work was produced in 1976, when the artist was fascinated with question of on duplication, multiplication and reflection.
