Lot Essay

The present watch with matching ring is part of a small number of sets produced in the 70s. It is very rare nowadays to find these models accompanied with original accessories such as the present ring.

According to the Archives of Piaget, a total of only 15 examples of this model were made between 1973 and 1977, most likely using different kinds of hardstones, including malachite as this example.

Further to its singularity, this highly stylish and elegant creation is a typical Piaget design from the 1970s. It was created at the height of the firm's finest era of jewelry making and was inspired by the period's nonconformist style, playing with texture, color, and design. Extremely sophisticated, this delicate set is a real works of art that highlight Piaget's exceptional know how in the work of gold and hard-stones.

Propelled by the incredible creative momentum of the 1960s, Piaget raised hardstones to the rank of precious stones, creating astonishing graphic effects. The brand soon grasped the value of using these materials and immediately mastered the requisite production skills. Colour became the hallmark of the brand: jade, coral, lapis lazuli, tiger's eye, turquoise. Over 30 different stones were to adorn a stunning array of exceptional models, their interaction with light, inclusions and subtle nuances giving a unique character to each creation.
