Dating from 1981, the present watch is a very well-preserved and attractive example of a “Big Red” Daytona reference 6263, the name derived from the bright red "Daytona" designation, a most popular model in today's market. It is distinguished by its very good overall condition and original black dial with white subsidiary dials, the red Daytona designation retains its vivid color.
The reference 6263 was first introduced to the market in the early 1970s where the “Daytona” designation is found on examples from the mid-1970s onwards. It was available in stainless steel, 14K and 18K gold. The model was fitted with the "Oyster" or "screw down" chronograph buttons and a bezel with black plastic insert, the tachymeter scale printed in white.
Different versions of the model are described and illustrated in: Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 328 - 335.
