Lot Essay

Boodle and Dunthorne was a British jeweller founded in 1780 based in Liverpool. During the early 20th century, the company supplied watches to the Admiralty and Air Ministry. Later in the 20th century, Boodles developed as a renowned retailer of exquisite jewellery. The company was also given the honour of the commission to make the silver stand for HRH Princess Elizabeth's birthday cake in 1947.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Boodle and Dunthorne in 1998, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5049 in a very limited series of 20 pieces only based on the renowned Patek Philippe perpetual calendar movement.
