Lot Essay

In 1988, Rolex introduced their first ever automatic chronograph wristwatch as the 16500 series fitted with Calibre 4030. An early example of this series, the reference 16528, features a very attractive “Four Line” dial with an inverted six to the hour subsidiary dial on the chronograph and was referred to as the MK 2 dial. Further distinguished by its early MK 1 bezel, the present watch was calibrated for 200 instead of 400 units per hour.
