A. LANGE & SÖHNE. A RARE AND FINE 18K HONEY GOLD LIMITED EDITION WRISTWATCH WITH MOON PHASES
The following three exceptional A. Lange & Söhne complicated watches are limited editions cased in the company’s patented 18k “Honey Gold”, a special alloy of gold unique to Lange and reserved for only their most exclusive limited edition watches.Lange & Söhne is one of very few watch manufacturers to have its own bespoke coloured gold. Named “Honey Gold”, the exact formula for the alloy is a closely guarded secret, the gold is physically harder and paler than standard 18k gold and harder than normal platinum. Since 2010, a select range of limited edition Lange timepieces have been cased in this new material. Apart from its distinctive and highly attractive understated colour, honey gold has a further important physical property – exceptional scratch resistance. Such imperviousness naturally created challenges for Lange in working the material itself, which is so hard (just over 300 on the Vickers hardness scale) that it resists all but the specific tools that have been developed to create the watch cases. Furthermore, polishing of honey gold has to be carried out in a gas-filled oxygen-free environment. We are proud to offer in this auction three highly desirable honey gold limited edition wristwatches, two made in 2010 to mark the 165th anniversary of the company’s founder - F.A. Lange: The “1815” Moon Phase The LANGE 1 Tourbillon and the third:The LANGE 1 Date & Power Reserve, made in an extremely limited edition of only 20 pieces. Each model combines both high complication and state of the art materials representing the exceptional achievement of Lange & Söhne’s modern production. Furthermore, these exclusive honey gold watches feature special-finish dials to distinguish their exclusivity from regular production. A. LANGE & SÖHNEHONEY GOLDPROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION

The present honey gold watch is number 169 of a limited edition of 265 examples. The name of the model, “1815” refers to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, the company’s founder who, in 1845 established himself in Glashütte, a village in Saxony.

The 1815 Moon Phase has a solid gold silvered dial with beautifully balanced symmetrical design featuring a railway minute track, small seconds, guilloche engraved centre and a moon phase display calculated to remain accurate for 122.6 years.
