A hand-colored copy of the first edition, with 26 views of the First War of Indian Independence. Published immediately following the brutal suppression of the Sepoy Mutiny and depicting troops on the move, "Capture and Death of the Shahzahdas," etc. This hand-colored version is rare. Folio (561 x 373mm). Pictorial title and 25 plates on 19 sheets (plates 17 and 19 with marginal tear encroaching on image; long repaired tear to letterpress list of plates; other minor marginal repairs; minor spots and soiling). Publisher’s pictorial red cloth stamped in gilt and blind (rebacked with original spine laid down and endpapers renewed, edges repaired).
