Florentine by birth, Bastiani was a pupil of Augusto Rivalta in Milan and worked at one time in the studio of Cesare Zocchi. Favoring genre and allegorical subjects, Bastiani specialized in female figures carved with skilful balance and pose. Compare a statue titled Ninfa, 144 cm. high, illustrated in A.
