The Alsiatian Drölling entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1779 and gained celebrity at the 1817 Salon for his Kitchen interior at the Louvre. Familiar and popular subjects were his specialty, as attested by this charming drawing inspired by the young shepherds by Boucher.
