Fils d’Alexis Rouart et père d’Ernest Rouart, Henri se consacre entièrement à la peinture après une carrière d’ingénieur. Ancien élève de Corot et de Millet, ami de jeunesse d’Edgar Degas, son art est proche des impressionnistes et participe à ce titre, aux expositions de ce groupe dès 1874 chez Nadar.
Grand collectionneur des Maitres Impressionnistes, la vente de sa collection en 1912 marque le commencement de l’envolé des prix pour cette spécialité.
Son of Alexis Rouart and father of Ernest Rouart, Henri dedicated his life to painting after starting a career as an engineer. A student of both Corot and Millet, and a childhood friend of Edgar Degas, his work is close in style to that of the Impressionists. Consequently, he participated to several of their exhibitions at Nadar’s from 1874 onwards.
