Lot Essay

Consigned by an important international collector of impeccable taste, the importance of this unique ‘Ferrari Blue’ dial RM017 tourbillon, the first rectangular-shaped model in Richard Mille’s tourbillon range, will be appreciated immediately by both Richard Mille and Ferrari aficionados worldwide.

Richard Mille is the contemporary watch brand of choice for the owners of the world’s greatest supercars. It is therefore highly appropriate that the inspiration for the blue dial and hands of the present watch was the colour of the present owner’s unique Ferrari J50 car, made as part of a limited edition of just 10 bespoke examples tailored specifically to each client’s requirements. These exceptional cars were produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari Japan.
Originally purchased from the Richard Mille boutique, the present white ceramic Asia limited edition RM017 was, in this same spirit of an individual bespoke commission, specially customised by the Richard Mille manufacture so that the dial colour matched the blue of the client’s prized Ferrari J50.

This ‘one-off’ tourbillon watch is sure to appeal to those who wish to acquire a highly attractive timepiece of the utmost exclusivity even within the rarefied world of Richard Mille.

Richard Mille RM017
The RM017 was the first rectangular-shaped timepiece in Richard Mille’s exceptional tourbillon range. The present model, in white ceramic, was launched in Hong Kong in 2015. The calibre RM017 tourbillon movement which has a thickness of only 4.65 mm. is one of the thinnest tourbillon watches in production. In addition, the RM017 features power-reserve and function indicators. The power reserve indicator is shown using a scale located at 2 o’clock to show the number of hours of energy remaining in the mainspring before the watch should be wound up again. The function indicator is similar in operation to the gearbox of a car, the function indicator displays the winding, neutral and hand-setting positions as the crown is pulled out. A hand located at 4 o’clock displays the current position. The case is assembled with 12 spline screws in grade 5 titanium and abrasion-resistant washers in 316 L stainless steel and is water resistant to 30 metres.
