Lot Essay

The present chronograph is an attractive and well-preserved representative of a “Big Red” Daytona reference 6263, the name derived from the bright red "Daytona" designation, a most popular model in today's market. It is furthermore distinguished by its excellent overall condition.

The unrestored dial shows a vibrant red Daytona signature, The case displays sharp edges, crisp and legible serial numbers, the case back is stamped 6263 and CRS.

A reference point for Daytona collectors, the Rolex chronograph reference 6263 has become throughout the years one of the most sought after Rolex timepieces. Introduced in 1969, the 6263 is the sister reference of the 6265 and replaced the first oyster chronograph, reference 6240. Offered with the upgraded calibre 727 as well as screw down pushers enhancing waterproof abilities, the timepiece bears the “Oyster” designation on the upper-half of its dial and differed from the 6265 through its black bezel graduated to 200 units

Different versions of the model are described and illustrated in: Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 328 – 335.
