Lot Essay

The present example is distinguished by its beautifully tropical “gilt” dial found on the later series of Explorer models. Early series featured outer chapter rings printed in silver and the signature likewise in silver. According to the serial number of this watch it was made in 1964, also confirmed by the case back stamped I.64 for the first quarter of 1964.

Enhancing its overall appeal, the watch stands out through its very warm and appealing tropical dial. Gradually changing from black to a dark brown colour.
