Lot Essay

The collector’s seal belonged to Gu Danming (1904-1973), a native of Panyu, Guangdong, and a student of Gao Jianfu. Gu was known for his superb painting skills and connoisseurship. After World War II Gu was active in the Chinese painting circle in Hong Kong and Macau and owned a diverse collection.
Three paintings from the same collection will be offered in Christie’s Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy sale on July 8th. (Lots 831-833)
