Lot Essay

'The idea of the promise of absolute freedom that relates to abstract or non-figurative painting interested me. Free forms, putting too much into a painting, trying to overwhelm people with elements of graffiti and quotes of already existing painters, doing intelligent things that appear to be stupid – for me it was liberating. I thought that everybody was interested in painting, but in the nineties nobody was.' DANIEL RICHTER
