Lot Essay

Hovering between tension and fluidity, robustness and delicacy, the Hermès H08 watch is entirely in keeping with the masculine universe of the Maison. The Only Watch edition offers two new interpretations of the watch, both housed in a single presentation box.

As contemporary as it is timeless, the Hermès H08 watch is in tune with the pulsating lifestyle of modern-day men.

A sense of detail, meticulousness and patiently acquired expertise are what the Hermès H08 watch requires of the artisans who craft it. Its sports-inspired lines combine tension and fluidity, with a circular dial housed in a case featuring softened edges, as if merging angles and curves.

Through its enigmatic name, the Hermès H08 watch offers a nod to graphics, mathematics and metaphysics. The original font of its numerals chimes with the object itself, featuring a 0 and an 8 recalling the shape of the case.

For Only Watch 2021, the Hermès H08 watch is unveiled in two interpretations, combining its mineral materials and deep colours with a hint of orange.

HISTORY OF THE BRAND
Founded in Paris in 1837, the House of Hermès built its reputation for excellence on its skill in making horse saddles. In the early 20th century, it further developed this know-how acquired in the field of leather craftsmanship, notably by producing belts, clothes and bags. The Hermès watchmaking tradition dates back to the 1920s, when its saddle-making talent was first exercised on watch straps. In 1928, the first Hermès watches were presented in the company store at 24, Faubourg Saint-Honoré. At the time, Hermès placed its signature on “timepieces” created in cooperation with the greatest names in the Swiss watch industry before founding in 1978 the Ateliers de La Montre Hermès in Biel, Switzerland. By setting up its workshops at the geographical heart of Swiss watchmaking territory, La Montre Hermès was proclaiming its taste for high standards and its passion for precision. Hermès has acquired a financial stake in Vaucher Manufacture in Fleurier (movements), as well as buying up Natéber SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2012 (dials) and Joseph Erard SA in Le Noirmont in 2013 (cases). As of 2017, the case and dial entities have been brought together in Le Noirmont under the name of Les Ateliers d’Hermès Horloger.
