To the best of our knowledge, this extremely rare chronograph reference 5070J-012 is the first example to be offered at international auction.
The present reference 5070 is one of the models attributed to the ‘London Collection’ made to commemorate the prestigious Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition held at the Saatchi Gallery in 2015 as part of the company’s 175th anniversary celebrations. For this exhibition, Patek Philippe re-released a series of discontinued models using new-old-stock movements and unused cases from series production. They came with unique dial variations not seen in the original collection, and were produced in very limited numbers.
Crafted in 18k gold with an highly appealing brown dial, the present timepiece provides collectors with an opportunity to obtain one of the key pieces of the ‘London Collection’ which almost never become available on the open market.
Reference 5070
Reference 5070 was the first chronograph-only reference produced by Patek Philippe since the reference 1463 was discontinued in the late 1960's. It was introduced in 1998 in yellow gold only, then beginning in 2001 in white gold, in 2003 pink gold and since 2008 it has only been produced in platinum. It is thought that for each version colour that production ceased after reaching 1000 pieces.
