Lot Essay

Made in less than 10 examples only in yellow gold, the reference 880 is a highly attractive Patek Philippe rarity. Offered in excellent original condition, the present highly complicated minute repeating perpetual calendar watch is offered to the market after several decades in one of the world’s greatest watch collections. Its classically styled silvered dial by Stern Frères is on a solid gold plate with gold indexes and is enhanced by the red 24-hours, leap year cycle and subsidiary seconds indications. The heavy gold case is made by the Geneva master case maker Antoine Gerlach whose mark of a number 4 in a key is punched inside the back of the case.

Since its launch in the 1970s, only five other examples of the reference 880 have returned to the open market.
