Lot Essay

Gemini G.E.L.'s fabrication notes read: "The Geometric Mouse is profiled from 1/8 in. aluminum and given a hard black anodized matte finish. To hold the "ears" and "nose" of the moveable three-dimensional object in any rotational position, a miniature multi-disk clutch was designed. The friction between the face surfaces of the machined disks are preset during the assembly operation before the sealing of the hinge. To fix the hinging positions of the "ears" and "nose", a spring steel expansion pin is used. The pin is compressed as it is pressed into place. The resulting tension loads the hinge and gives it stability. A similar device is used to hold the "windows" in any given position. The hard anodized finish on all the parts provides for highly wear-resistant surfaces, thus assuring long life for all the hinges and fittings."
