Lot Essay

The present work typifies Porfirio Salinas' celebrated Texas landscapes focusing on the rolling hills and sprawling bluebonnet fields of the central area of the state known as “Hill Country.” Before the artist’s rise to prominence due in part by the support of President Lyndon Johnson, the painting's original owner Johnnie Frances Kokernot Felder of San Antonio recognized the artist's talent and commissioned Bluebonnet Hill Country directly from him in the early 1950s.
