STAG'S LEAP AND PENFOLDS
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was set up in 1972 in the Napa Valley by founder Warren Winiarski. Success was almost instantaneous with the triumph of the 1973 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon when it took first place in a comparative tasting in Paris 1976. Warren’s descriptive phrase ‘iron fist in a velvet glove’, is often used to describe Stag’s Leap’s polished but sturdy Cabernets formed from the 44 acre property. Having joined the vineyard in 1995, winemaker Michael Silacci is accompanied by assistant winemaker Julia Winiarski. Together they are known to produce outstanding wines, among the finest in California. On offer in this lot is Cask 23, the proprietary red wine blend. This is only made from select vintages and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stag’s Leap vineyard and the adjoining Fay Vineyards.
