Lot Essay

In contrast to the Laurent Ferrier regular production series offered with either a white enamel Grand Feu enamel dial or a black onyx dial, the present platinum watch is unique in having a black enamel Grand Feu dial. Adding a further layer of exclusivity, the unique watches of Laurent Ferrier such as the present watch are recognizable by their beautiful Breguet numerals to distinguish them from the Roman numerals of the regular production series.

This stunning wristwatch is as technically advanced as it is easy to wear. Its discreet appearance belies the fact that it is a technical masterpiece, the calibre 916.01 movement is equipped with a one-minute tourbillon certified by the Besançon Observatory. As its name suggests and for improved accuracy, two balance springs are used, mounted at 180 degrees opposite one another in order to eliminate isochronal errors and ensuring the balance remains as centered as possible during each oscillation.
With unique black enamel Grand Feu dial made upon the special request of the present owner, this Laurent Ferrier tourbillion wristwatch, housed in a beautifully shaped curving solid platinum Galet, or "pebble" case is the last word in understated luxury and a pinnacle of the very best in watchmaking excellence.

A third-generation watchmaker, Laurent Ferrier has an exceptionally impressive C.V., including a total of four decades at Patek Philippe, ultimately becoming technical and product director, as well as placing third overall at the 1979 Le Mans in a Porsche 935, just behind the team that included Paul Newman. From the beginning, Laurent Ferrier immediately opted for excellence and rapidly earned chronometric precision certification from the Besançon Observatory. The company draws upon the sources of traditional horology while offering a renewed vision of movement construction. It represents a bridge between watchmaking traditions embodied in a wealth of details and finishes, and industrial innovations. This renewal of classical values makes Laurent Ferrier a respected new exponent of the exclusive art of mechanical haute horlogerie - a status duly noted by connoisseurs.

In 2010 Laurent Ferrier was awarded the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix in the "Men's Watch" category for its first creation, the Galet Classic.
