Lot Essay

The iconic 'Pond Lily' lamp is typically paired with ruffled blown shades of Favrile glass with a gold iridescence. However, the emerald green shades accompanying the present lot are quite exceptioinal and were probably a special order. Made of mold-blown opalescent Favrile glass with a matte acid finish, the darker green ribbing attractively alternates with brighter vertical bands when the lamp is illuminated. The forest green hue bleeding into a warmer pea-green observed in the shades contrasts beautifully with the gold patina of the metalwork. The resulting effect is a strong synergy that brings to life the acquatic scene of pond lily leaves, stems, and flowers all floating in the water.
