Lot Essay
Maximillian Büsser needs little introduction as the ingenious master watchmaker behind the legendary contemporary brand MB&F, famous for their extraordinary limited edition haute horology masterpieces since 2007. However, the fascinating ‘M.A.D.1’ wristwatch has been manufactured under Max Büsser’s new brand 'M.A.D. Edition' as the inaugural piece. The name stands for ‘Mechanical Art Devices’. Released very discreetly and sold for a modest retail price, paradoxically, the M.A.D.1 is almost impossible to obtain because it was only available to the friends of MB&F known as ‘The Tribe’ and devoted existing owners of MB&F watches.
As expected from Max Büsser, the M.A.D.1 wristwatch combines ingenious design and construction with great looks. The 42mm stainless steel case with sapphire crystal body has, in place of a standard dial, a visible oversized titanium and tungsten winding rotor with luminous inserts. The time is read from revolving minute and hour rings with luminous numerals visible in the side of the crystal case with an arrow pointer between the lugs at 6 o’clock. A gap between the lugs and the main body of the case gives it an almost ‘floating’ appearance.
The present watch gives MB&F devotees and collectors of contemporary watchmaking the chance to obtain an exclusive Max Büsser designed timepiece that was never available publicly and has already gained a cult following.
