Lot Essay

The Royal Oak perpetual calendar models are one of the great classics of Audemars Piguet, combining the two elements for which the company has become famous – the perpetual calendar and the Royal Oak. Full 18K yellow gold versions such as the present watch, of which 422 examples were made between 1982 and 1993 are among the most seriously collectible of vintage pre-leap-year Royal Oaks.

The reference 25654 is almost indistinguishable from the slightly thinner reference 25554 which was produced during exactly the same period. However, the case of the 25554 is only 7.5 mm. thick and it proved quite challenging for AP to make it reliably waterproof. This resulted in the creation of the present model reference 25654 with the case thickness being increased to 8.25 mm.
