Lot Essay

This platinum Master Minute Repeater Antoine LeCoultre is the highly auspicious number 8 of the limited edition of 200 pieces. Treasured as part of the Champion Collection since new, it is preserved and presented in excellent condition.
Distinguished by its 43 mm. diameter platinum case and openworked silvered dial, this exceptional timepiece is certainly one of the most impressive minute repeating wristwatches of Jaeger LeCoultre’s 21st century production. Superb bold styling combined with a resonant and clear repeating sound has made this model one of the most sought after of Jaeger’s complicated watches, the pitch and tone of the chimes was developed in collaboration with the famous French orchestra and opera conductor Georges Pretre. The gongs emit a sound of 55 decibels from a distance of two feet. The dial displays the mechanical functions through three openworked segments including both power reserve and spring barrel torque indications.
Amongst all the complications which can be found in wristwatches, minute repeaters are most probably the rarest and most challenging to produce, only a handful of manufacturers have ever included this miniaturized wonder of mechanical engineering in their wristwatches. The present reference, Q1646420, is fitted with the 43 jewel caliber 947 three-quarter plate movement bearing the facsimilie signature of Antoine LeCoultre which is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Two years in development, it was the first minute repeater to be water resistant to 50 metres.
The Jaeger Master Minute Repeater Antoine LeCoultre is a most desirable trophy in today’s collectors market and does not fail to impress on every level, showcasing Jaeger LeCoultre’s manufacturing know-how and tremendous watchmaking skills. This fine Minute Repeater would be an exceptional addition to any fine watch collection.
