Of all F.P. Journe rarities, the T-10 Anniversary Tourbillon is probably the ultimate, so rare that it has an almost mythical status. Christie’s is therefore extremely excited to be able to offer for the first time at auction an example of the platinum 10 Year Anniversary Tourbillon of which only 10 pieces exist in the world. Very few people have ever been fortunate enough to have ever seen this ultra-exclusive watch in reality, even fewer have possessed it. The present watch offers collectors of F.P. Journe and those who pursue the rarest statement timepieces an exceptional and unheard of opportunity to acquire a T-10 Tourbillon at auction.
10 Year Anniversary Tourbillon ‘T-10’
An entirely special production watch in every sense, the platinum Tourbillon ‘T-10’ was made in 2013 to celebrate two important events in the history of F.P. Journe - the 10th anniversary of the opening of the first F.P. Journe boutique in Tokyo, Japan (the ‘T’ of ‘T-10’ standing for Tokyo) and also the opening of F.P. Journe’s 10th international boutique, in Beirut. Because only 10 watches were made, the limited number presented a challenge in terms of allocation. In order to solve this dilemma, F.P. Journe’s 10 worldwide boutiques were each asked to provide the names of three loyal and established clients. The names were collected and of these thirty names, 10 were drawn completely at random to become the very lucky chosen recipients of a platinum T-10 Tourbillon.
The general design of the T-10 closely followed the rose gold T-30 which was also made in 2013 in an edition of 99 pieces to commemorate the 30th anniversary of François-Paul Journe’s first tourbillon pocket watch. The design of the grained silver and back dial also takes its inspiration from that first watch. However, unlike the T-30, the platinum T-10 has a solid rose gold movement and a crystal display back through which to admire it. The most striking feature of the T-10 is that, unlike almost every other tourbillon wristwatch, F.P. Journe decided not to display the tourbillon through the dial. Instead, the tourbillon is only visible through the exhibition crystal case back.
Not only one of the major rarities of F.P. Journe, the platinum T-10 Tourbillon is both extremely elegant, beautiful and technically superb.
