Patek Philippe reference 5170 is the successor to reference 5070 and was released with great fanfare in Basel 2010. The first men’s wristwatch from the celebrated house to feature its own in-house designed and manufactured chronograph movement, Cal. CH 29-535 PS. Based on a traditional column wheel design, it features six new patents and took over five years to develop. The case is a wonderful work of art and reminiscent of Patek Philippe’s exceedingly rare and oversized vintage 2 register chronograph ref. 530. The first generation 5170 was fitted with a silvered dial and was the first production chronograph from the company to feature a pulsations scale.
The present lot, Patek Philippe Ref. 5170R-010 is a stunning iteration of this exceptional series of watches with its oversized rose gold case, black dial and applied rose gold breguet numerals. In absolutely unworn and like new condition, accompanied by its original Certificate of origin, instruction manual, presentation box, and coming directly from the original owner. The 5170R-10 was released in 2013 and officially discontinued in 2016.
