Lot Essay

Consigned by the son of the original owner, the present timepiece was purchased during the original owner’s military service during the Vietnam War.

Introduced in late 1960s, the reference 1680 was the first Submariner to feature a date indicator as well as the cyclops magnifier. Distinguished by its red Submariner printing to the dial, the “Red Sub” has become a cult classic.

This example of the highly coveted ref. 1680 stands out by its very well preserved MK IV dial with red Submariner script. Nicknamed “Red Sub” by Rolex collectors, the timepiece features evenly aged luminous accents, the full case retains its original proportions and appears to have never been polished. The present lot offers collectors the opportunity to purchase one of the most lauded vintage Rolex models in excellent condition.
