Lot Essay

The instrumental theme on the present lot speaks to Gordon Getty's passion for composing. A multi-faceted composer, Mr. Getty has penned pieces for piano, chamber ensemble, orchestra and even operas. The depiction of a harpsichord on this tea and coffee service reflects a long tradition of musicians and composers, performing particularly in the salons of Europe in the Renaissance and Baroque period prior to the introduction of the quieter piano in 1700.
