The backplate in the form of an urn suspended from a bow-knot tied ribbon and flanked by female masks, the curved candle branches cast with foliate rinceau scrolls, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label

Lot Essay

The design for these wall-lights is based on a celebrated model by François Rémond. Elegant expressions of the fashionable goût Etrusque of the 1780's, similar wall-lights were delivered by Rémond in 1784 to the Comte d'Artois for the Palais du Temple, now in the Petit Trianon.
