Lot Essay

This agate angel fish sat proudly within the glass fishbowl suspended from the Empire chandelier by the Galle workshop in Ann and Gordon Getty's dining room, being offered as lot 32 in the Evening Sale of this collection. Though the fishbowl was originally designed to hold living goldfish for the entertainment of guests, this hardstone fish provided a low maintenance, yet equally impactful alternative.
