In common with all the incredible watches in the ‘Champion Collection’, the present platinum Cabaret Tourbillon is offered in exceptional pristine condition and is accompanied by the full set of accessories.
Upon the introduction of the first Cabaret model in 1997, Lane & Söhne described the new timepiece as: “Fresh, a little impudent and very imaginative – that also applies to the Cabaret by Lange. The great art of watchmaking, performing on the smallest stage in the world. And giving the most beautiful performance that time is capable of.”
The Cabaret Tourbillon was introduced in 2008 and represented a breakthrough in the tourbillon's history. After over two hundred years of existence, and for the first time ever, a tourbillon had been fitted with a stop-seconds mechanism. This challenging complication is achieved with Lange's patented stop-seconds mechanism which allows the tourbillon to be set precisely to the second and thus allowing very accurate synchronization with a time signal. The Cabaret Tourbillon was produced in platinum (reference 703.025) and pink gold (reference 703.032). It was discontinued after 5 years in 2013 and it is thought that no more than 250 pieces were ever made in total.
When it was released in 2008, the retail price of the Cabaret Tourbillon was $260,000 US Dollars, an enormous sum at the time. This reflected the huge amount of research and development that the newly invented stop-seconds mechanism for the caliber L042.1 tourbillon had taken. The new patented stop-seconds mechanism allows the tourbillon cage to be stopped regardless of the position of the balance. A specially shaped spring makes it possible to lock the balance wheel in place when the crown is pulled out and releases it when the crown is pushed back in. The Cabaret Tourbillon also has an impressive 5-day power reserve when fully wound.
In a world where wristwatches are worn in various changing orientations and the constant search for perfect accuracy is an ongoing challenge, the Cabaret Tourbillon by A. Lange & Söhne advanced the technology a step further and raised the tourbillon to even greater heights.
