Christie’s is delighted to present the first example at auction of the splendid Frosted White Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked rainbow Royal Oak reference 15468BC. Furthermore, this spectacular creation is accompanied by the full set of accessories.
Nicknamed the ‘Snow Rainbow’ due to its shimmering frosted white gold case and bracelet set with 32 individually matched and cut rainbow coloured baguette-cut sapphires with a total weight of 2.24 carats. This quite breathtaking setting encloses an equally breathtaking openworked dial and the caliber 3132 movement featuring Audemars Piguet’s patented double balance wheel escapement which is visible from both sides.
The origin of the frosted effect to the gold is the 2017 collaboration between Audemars Piguet and the fourth-generation Florentine jewellery designer Carolina Bucci. Florence is famous for its centuries old tradition of innovative metalworking techniques, the frosted finish on this Royal Oak model is created by beating the gold with a diamond-tipped tool to leave micro dents on the surface. The finished effect is like sparkling frost, glittering and supremely elegant.
