This extremely rare and possibly unique prototype reference 8050 is personally dedicated to the present owner. Highly attractive in pink gold with a two-tone dial, this single-button chronograph celebrates the Ferrari 375 MM, a sports racing car produced by Ferrari between 1953 and 1955. It was named "375" for the unitary displacement of one cylinder in the 4.5 L V12 engine, and the "MM" stands for the world famous Mille Miglia (Italian for 1000 miles) motor sport endurance race which originally ran from 1927 to 1957.
In total 26 Ferrari 375 MM were made, including four converted from the 340 MM. Now a legendary classic, the Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia carried on the Ferrari tradition of naming sports models after the famous Italian road race and was a spin-off of the F1 single-seater.
Girard-Perregaux made watches in collaboration with Ferrari between 1993 and 2004. Ferrari had been looking for a watch brand to become a partner who were worthy of the Ferrari legend in both design and technology. Girard-Perregaux were chosen due to the personal connection of the owner of GP and the then President of Ferrari. The partnership became ‘Girard-Perregaux for Ferrari’ and began manufacturing small highly exclusive limited editions for Ferrari, in particular, to celebrate F1 championships and the release of new Ferrari models. These watches gained a cult following among collectors and Ferrari fans, reflecting the prestige and exclusivity of Ferrari whilst at the same time the buyer had the reassurance of owning a watch made by the great watch house of Girard-Perregaux.
